It occured in the direction that we were looking at while waiting for a rocket to appear from Vandenburg Airforce Base. That's probably the only reason that we saw it occur. So we were looking towards Malibu from the Beach in Hermosa Beach. Other people around us saw it and wondered if they had missed the rocket, but the rocket never did take off and this meteor occurance was about 5 minutes prior to the anticipated rocket launch.
